First, before we begin, just a friendly reminder that I am a woman of science. Numerous scientific studies have shown the effectiveness of sound and vibration on the human body, specifically for healing and mental health. We can study it, we can measure it, we can prove it. Also, the human body has a frequency, it vibrates. Again, not up for debate. We KNOW this.
Ok, so now that that is out of the way, let's break down what a sound bath is and why they work.
What is a Sound Bath?!
A Sound Bath is an experience where sound is used to elicit a response from the body and mind, usually for relaxation or healing purposes.
How does a Sound Bath work?
A participants gets in a relaxing position, usually sitting or lying down, while a practioner plays different instruments that create specific frequencies that targets different areas of the body and mind. Instruments can be played for the frequencies to be heard and also felt by placing certain instruments on specific parts of the body.
What instruments are used during a Sound Bath?
Most common are singing bowls, crystal and/or Tibetan (metal). Turning Forks are common in sound therapy. Chimes are often used as well.
What is the point of a Sound Bath?
Ok, follow me here, we're gonna get sciencey.
Sound creates frequency through vibrations. Our bodies vibrate (we KNOW this, we can, and do, measure it). Resonance is when (in a nutshell) one vibrating thing causes another vibrating thing to vibrate at the same frequency (this is a scientific process).
SO, if we know the body vibrates at a certain frequency when functioning optimally, and we know resonance means we can effect one vibrating system with another vibrating system, we hence know that something that produces a certain frequency can help the body produce the same frequency.
So again, if we know what frequency the body or certain parts of the body is at when it is functioning properly (we know this), then we can use instruments to produce these same frequencies to make sure our bodies then also tune back into that frequency, where we know it wants to be.
You know the best way to understand it?! TRY IT! I can help!!
